While pondering the possibility of Timelord technology at Hogwarts, the felix felicis scene came on during the Half-Blood Prince.
Best scene of the movie, and throughout a great deal of the scenes in all of the movies, in my opinion. But, as Harry deftly persuaded Slughorn to give him the memory that would “ruin him”, I, for some unknown reason, paid particular attention to his words this time ‘round.Quite endearing, really; great use of pronouns to encapsulate the audience, personal experience to again help draw in Slughorn, use of anaphora near the end to give the persuasion that extra little oomf it needed to successfully achieve it’s purpose of extracting the memory, varying sentence structures to give his phrases meaning, and then I realized:
I’ve become analytic and will never again enjoy the simple pleasures of a well-delivered speech without identifying the rhetorical devices used within it to make it effective!
Oh, woe is me!
